Overview of the Alabama Port Authority

The Alabama Port Authority serves all 67 counties in the State of Alabama and, in addition to its inland port facilities, oversees maritime commerce and operations at the Port of Mobile, Alabama’s only deep-water seaport. The Port of Mobile consists of public marine terminals owned by the Alabama Port Authority, as well as privately owned marine terminals. The public marine terminals handle coal, containerized cargo, steel slab and steel products, forest products including pulp, paper and lumber, dry bulk cargo and liquid bulk cargo. The private marine terminals handle liquid bulk cargoes, lumber products, coal, and dry bulk cargoes such as limestone and iron ore. In 2022, the public and private marine terminals located in the Mobile Harbor and included in this impact study handled 43.3 million tons of international and domestic cargo for exporters and importers located within the state of Alabama, as well as throughout the United States.
